Kathmandu
is the capital city of Nepal and is one of the world's oldest
cities. Kathmandu Palace Square boasts for distinctive pagoda
roofed temples, stone sculptures, old monasteries and historic
monuments. The most interesting part of Kathmandu is the
ancient Hanuman Dhoka Palace and temple complex in the
midst of the old city. Kumarichwok, where living
virgin goddess lives, illustrates Kathmandu Valley no more a
dead museum of temples, gods and goddesses.
Patan is
the oldest city in the Kathmandu Valley. The ancient name of Patan
is Lalitpur, meaning the city of beauty. It still
remains a proud city of artisans. The city is full of Buddhist
monuments and Hindu temples with fine bronze gateways,
guardian deities and wonderful carvings. The entire Patan
Palace Square is a cluster of royal palaces, fine pagoda
temples and stone statues.
Bhaktapur was developed as a
city in the 9th century. It is Nepal's most perfectly
preserved city known as the "City of Devotees".
Bhaktapur Palace Square is a conglomeration of old palaces,
pagodas and Shikhara style temples located around famous Fifty
Five Window Palace. Beyond the Valley Besides the cultural
interests of Kathmandu Valley, there are numerous
fascinating places to visit throughout the country. Some such
as Nagarkot, which offers spacious Himalayan views and
peaceful country setting and others such as Lumbini, the birth
place of Lord Buddha and Pokhara - nestled on the lap
of Annapurna massif (8,091 m.) and Machhapuchhre
( Fishtail Mountain- 6,997 m.) are delightful places to relax
